San Saba County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 6,186. Its county seat is San Saba.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,948 km² (1,138 mi²). 2,938 km² (1,134 mi²) of it is land and 10 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 6,186 people, 2,289 households, and 1,616 families residing in the county. The population density is 2/km² (6/mi²). There are 2,951 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 84.50% White, 2.73% Black or African American, 1.07% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 10.52% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 21.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,289 households out of which 29.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.90% are married couples living together, 8.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.40% are non-families. 27.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.97.
