Wilson County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 32,408. Its county seat is Floresville. The county is named after James Charles Wilson.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,094 km² (809 mi²). 2,090 km² (807 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.20% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 32,408 people, 11,038 households, and 8,830 families residing in the county. The population density is 16/km² (40/mi²). There are 12,110 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 81.19% White, 1.21% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 14.25% from other races, and 2.43% from two or more races. 36.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,038 households out of which 40.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.50% are married couples living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.00% are non-families. 17.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.26.

In the county, the population is spread out with 29.20% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 11.50% who are 65 years of age or older.
