Campbell County is a county located in the state of Virginia. As of 2000, the population is 51,078. Its county seat is Rustburg.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,314 km² (507 mi²). 1,307 km² (504 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.55% water.
As of the census of 2000, there are 51,078 people, 20,639 households, and 14,694 families residing in the county. The population density is 39/km² (101/mi²). There are 22,088 housing units at an average density of 17/km² (44/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 83.24% White, 14.71% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.33% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 20,639 households out of which 30.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.00% are married couples living together, 11.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.80% are non-families. 24.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.45 and the average family size is 2.91.
